OVERALL RATING: |

Founded all the way back in 1994, Bodog is one of the oldest online casino and sportsbooks out there. With over twenty years of experience under their belt, Bodog has had plenty of time to perfect their sportsbook and casino offerings. Based on the length of time they have been in business, I have very high expectations of what I should find on their site.
Bodog is licensed by the small Caribbean island of Antigua. This isn’t surprising to me as many other online sportsbooks and casinos opt to gain licenses from Caribbean islands as they tend to have more relaxed gambling laws than countries like The United States. Since Antigua licenses Bodog, that means that the site is regulated under the laws of the Antigua and Barbuda Financial Services Regulatory Commission.
Who Can Play at Bodog Sportsbook and Casino?
Currently, Bodog only allows players from Canada to play on their site. I did some research online to verify this information. As well, I contacted their customer service team and asked them myself just to make sure that I wasn’t incorrect. In the future, I’d like to see Bodog open up their site to players from more countries so that more people can experience the excellent website that they have built. If you live somewhere other than Canada, check out some of my other site reviews to find one that does accept players from your country.
Software Suppliers
At Bodog, you’ll find a selection of games from a variety of software suppliers. Unlike some online sites that only use one software provider, Bodog has opted to use many of the top names in the business. On their website, I found games from BetSoft, Genesis Gaming, RealTime Gaming, and Rival Gaming. In addition to all of those, Bodog also offers some games using their own proprietary software which is a really cool way for them to differentiate from their competitors.
The Good Stuff
24/7 Customer Service Support
Having a site with customer service is one thing. However, having a website with round-the-clock customer service is another. Luckily, Bodog provides their clients with 24/7 customer service support! What I like about this is that it means someone from Bodog is there to help you no matter what day or time it is. I don’t see this too often from online sportsbooks and casinos, so it is very impressive that Bodog offers this level of service to their clients.
Three Convenient Ways to Contact Customer Support
As if the 24/7 customer service wasn’t enough, it gets even better! Bodog gives you three easy ways to reach their customer service team when you have an issue or a question. You can contact them via live chat, email, or the telephone. On many other online sportsbooks and casinos, you may see one or two contact methods. With Bodog offering three contact options, it means you shouldn’t have a problem finding one that works for you and your needs.
Live Betting
Not only does Bodog offer a sportsbook, but they also provide live betting within that sportsbook. Thanks to this feature, you’ll be able to bet on in-play sports action. I’m a huge fan of live sports betting, and I’m happy that Bodog provides this option to their clients.
The Bad Stuff
No Live Dealer Casino Games
Unfortunately, Bodog’s online casino is missing one significant aspect. While I wish this weren’t the case, they don’t offer any live dealer casino games at this time. Due to the current massive popularity of this casino game format, I think that Bodog is missing out on something big here.
I hope that Bodog will add live dealer casino games to their mix sometime soon to provide this option to their clients.
The Sportsbook
My first impression of the Bodog sportsbook was that it was a well organized page. I was immediately able to tell what was going on, which helped me navigate the page like a pro from the first second. Using the primary sports menu on the left-hand side of the page, I could quickly and easily locate the bets that I was looking for. Everything was a complete breeze.
The only thing that I found annoying about the main sportsbook page was that they did have a couple of ads on there for the casino and other site promotions. Luckily, the ads were not too big, but they still took away from the page slightly. In the future, it would be awesome if Bodog could do away with the ads for things not related to the sportsbook.
From a user interface standpoint, I found a few things on their sportsbook that really stood out. First, Bodog allows you to change how the odds are displayed on their site. Using the account settings, you can decide if you want your odds displayed in American, decimal, or fractional formats. To get to your account settings, click on your name in the top right-hand corner of any page. Once there, scroll down and select the account settings option.
Another cool user interface feature is that Bodog offers three different languages for the site. Those three languages are English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This is an excellent touch that allows people to use the site in their native tongue. Hopefully, we’ll see Bodog expand this feature to incorporate more languages in the future so that more clients can use the site in their preferred language. To change your preferred site language, merely change it under your account settings.
The other thing that I liked was that users could change their time zone setting. This is handy to use so that the game start times show in your local time zone. It also is great when you’re dealing with live sports wagers. If you’d like to change your preferred time zone, just use the account settings portion of the site.
If you’re a fan of live sports betting, you’ll be happy at Bodog. Luckily, Bodog offers a great set of live betting options which allow you to bet on events currently being played. Since this is one of the hottest trends in online sportsbooks, I’m thrilled that Bodog is offering it to their clients. One of the best parts about it is that Bodog makes it very simple to locate live betting action. Just look for the live betting call out at the top of the main left-hand sportsbook menu. It’s impossible to miss as it’s right at the very top.
Overall, I’m impressed with the sportsbook that Bodog offers their clients. Not only is the site laid out well, but they also have built in some excellent user interface features to make it user-friendly. Consider Bodog’s sportsbook if you’re looking for an online sports betting home, as I think you’ll be pleased with what you’ll find there.
Sports You Can Bet On
Fans of sports betting, take a second to check out the online sportsbook available at Bodog. There, you’ll locate over twenty different sports that you can bet on. I’ve gone ahead and listed them below so that you can see if your favorite sports to bet on are available at Bodog.
I should note that this list below showcases the sports that Bodog had on their site at the time of my site review. Following suit with most other online sportsbooks, Bodog doesn’t list a sport unless they have current wagers on it at that time. Therefore, the list below might not be the complete list of sports that you can bet on at Bodog. If your favorite sport isn’t listed below, try checking Bodog once that sport’s season has begun.
- Hockey
- Football
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Tennis
- Golf
- UFC/MMA
- Boxing
- Baseball
- Cricket
- Winter Olympics
- Horse Racing
- Motor Sports
- Esports
- Rugby
- Snooker
- Darts
- Cycling
- Volleyball
- Handball
- Futsal
- Aussie Rules
- Gaelic Games
- Entertainment
With over twenty sports that you can bet on, Bodog has put together an excellent selection to choose from. What I like about their lineup is that they offer coverage on all of the popular sports like baseball and basketball while also providing action on less popular sports like Gaelic games and futsal. I was most excited to see esports on their list, and I’ll cover more detail on that in the next section.
Esports Betting
As I mentioned above, Bodog is offering action on esports through their online sportsbook. It’s great to see Bodog offering esports wagers, as many online sportsbooks have yet to pick up on this emerging trend. Currently, esports is one of the most popular things in the online sports betting world.
From a selection standpoint, Bodog offers wagers on four top esports games at this time. Those games are LOL, CS:GO, DOTA 2, and StarCraft. I’m thrilled about this set of games that you can bet on as it covers all of the essential esports games that are very popular at this time. If you’re a fan of betting on esports, Bodog would be an excellent choice.
Casino Game Selection
For those of you not into betting on sports or those looking for a change of pace from their sports betting, take some time to see what Bodog brings to their table in their online casino. There, you’ll find a varied selection of casino games. I was pretty impressed with what I saw in their online casino. Below, I’ll give you more details on what you can expect to see for different game categories on Bodog.
Video Poker
Up first, I took a look at the video poker options available on Bodog. At their online casino, you’ll find a selection of seventeen different video poker game options. Below, I’ve listed each of these games out for you so that you can see if your favorite version of video poker is available on Bodog.
- Joker Poker
- Jacks or Better
- Bonus Deuces Wild
- DD Bonus Poker
- Bonus Poker
- Bonus Poker Deluxe
- Deuces Wild 1 Hand
- Double Bonus Poker
- DD Jackpot Poker
- Double Jackpot Poker
- Jacks or Better 10 Hands
- Jacks or Better 3 Hands
- Jacks or Better 52 Hands
- Joker Poker 10 Hands
- Joker Poker 3 Hands
- Joker Poker 52 Hands
- Loose Deuces
From a video poker perspective, I was slightly let down by the size of their offering. Compared to many other online casinos, Bodog’s game count is below average. That being said, the games that they do offer are excellent video poker games with great graphics. Hopefully, Bodog will consider adding in some more video poker games in the future so that their clients can have a broader selection.
Table Games
When it comes to table games, Bodog brings you many casino favorites in their online casino. There, you’ll come across games such as blackjack, baccarat, and Pai Gow Poker. I’ve listed out the entire table games lineup from Bodog below for your convenience.
- Blackjack
- European Roulette
- Roll the Dice
- Craps
- Classic Tri-Card Poker
- Baccarat
- Let ‘Em Ride
- American Roulette
- Caribbean Hold’em
- Caribbean Stud Poker
- Single Deck Blackjack
- Pai Gow Poker
- Vegas Three Card Rummy
- Zappit Blackjack
I do wish that they had more table game options for their clients. With just about a dozen table games, the selection is smaller than I typically see from other online casinos. I think that by adding a bit more variety they’ll create an even better online casino for their clients.
Slots
Bodog does not disappoint when it comes to slot selection. In total, I found over two hundred slot games on their website. I’ve listed out the top forty slot games available at Bodog below for your reference so that you can see if they carry some of your favorite games.
- A Night With Cleo
- Caesar’s Empire
- Mystic Wolf
- Diamond Dragon
- Ten Times Wins

- and many more!
With over two hundred slot games in their lineup, Bodog has a killer selection of slot games. No matter if you’re into jackpots, bonus rounds, or just multi-reel setups, Bodog has you covered. With this many games, you’d be hard-pressed not to find some that you enjoy playing.
I checked their list of games to see if they carried any name brand slot machines. Unfortunately, I didn’t locate any in their mix. I’m a big fan of name brand slots as they tend to be a bit better than their generic or knock-off counterparts. From my experience, they usually have better graphics and provide an overall improved gaming experience. Luckily, the slot games that Bodog does offer are still superb even without being name brand. One definite positive is that I did not locate any cheesy knock-off games such as The Slotfather on their site.
From a graphics standpoint, the slot games at Bodog are on point. What you’ll find on their website is up there with the best of the best. I was impressed at how awesome the graphics looked both on my desktop computer and my mobile devices. If you’re into slots, do yourself a favor and check out the slots selection at Bodog.
Casual Games
When you’re looking for something different than your standard video poker or blackjack options, check out Bodog’s lineup of casual casino games. There, you’ll find over twenty different games to select from. Included in that lineup are favorite games such as Keno, bingo, and scratch offs. For your convenience, I’ve listed out all of the casual games available at Bodog below.
- Keno
- Keno Draw
- 30-Ball Bingo
- 80-Ball Bingo
- American Bingo
- Beach Bums
- Amazonia Bingo
- Cast for Cash
- Gunslinger’s Gold
- Amazonia Bingo
- Bingo Cataratas
- Bingo Goal
- Bingo Ribeierinhos
- European Bingo
- Itchin’ 2 Win
- Penguin Payday
- Go-Go Bingo
- Tribo Bingo
- Dudoku
- Pesca Bingo
- Pirates Pillage
- Tiki Treasure
The total number of casual games offered by Bodog is more than I see at most other online casinos. This is a big plus to me as it means that it provides their clients with a more extensive selection of options. While checking out some of the casual games, I noticed that they all had great graphics. In addition, they all worked well on my mobile devices.
Live Casino
Unfortunately, Bodog’s online casino doesn’t offer any live dealer games at this time. This was a pretty big disappointment to me as I enjoy live dealer games, and they are currently trendy in the online casino space. I’d like to see them offer these as an option for their clients in the future and I think that doing such will help make Bodog more competitive in the online casino realm.
Bodog has assembled a pretty good online casino so far. That being said, some improvements could be made. Notably, they need to add live dealer games, and they need to increase their gaming options for video poker and table games. Once they offer live dealer casino games and a more extensive selection of video poker and table games, Bodog will have a well-rounded casino that will appeal to a broader set of clients. As is, the current online casino is a great place that will meet the needs of many folks looking to do their casino gambling online.
Promotions
Bodog has a fantastic lineup of different promotions that offer clients plenty of opportunities to get some bonus cash for their account. Like most other online casinos and sportsbooks, Bodog has promotions geared towards attracting new clients and others made to help retain existing ones. In this section, I’ll give you the low down on all of the best current promotions that Bodog offered at the time of my review.
Sports Sign Up Bonus
If you’re new to Bodog, you won’t want to miss out on this promotion that is only for new clients. With their Sports Sign Up Bonus, you’ll receive a 100% deposit match on your initial sportsbook deposit. What’s cool about this promotion is that you can earn up to $200 in free bonus cash. If you’d like to earn the $200 maximum, merely make an initial deposit of $200 or more. It’s that easy!
One of the things that I like most about this offer from Bodog is that you can choose where to have the bonus funds applied. Your choices are their sportsbook, racebook, or their online casino. Depending on which one you select, the bonus funds will have a specific rollover requirement. Currently, the rollover requirements are 5x for the sportsbook and racebook, and 40x for the online casino.
Casino Sign Up Bonus
For those of you considering the online casino at Bodog, this offer might be a good one for you. Under the terms and conditions of this promotion, Bodog will match your first online casino deposit dollar for dollar up to $600. That means you can earn $600 of bonus casino funds by depositing $600 or more for your first deposit.
It’s worth noting a few things about this promotion. First, this offer is only available to new clients. Secondly, the rollover requirement for your bonus funds is 25x, meaning that you’ll need to turn over your bonus funds that many times before you’re able to withdrawal them. Finally, you should know that craps play does not contribute towards your rollover requirements. Check out the Bodog website to view the full terms and conditions of this casino welcome bonus.
Poker Sign Up Bonus
In your first thirty days on Bodog, you can earn up to a whopping $1,000 through their Poker Sign Up Bonus! The amount of bonus that you earn will depend on how many poker points you acquire over your first thirty days on the site. The way that you earn points is by playing poker on the site. I’ve included a chart below which showcases the amount of bonus that you can receive for each potential bonus level of this offer.
In their poker software, you’ll find a handy tracker which makes it easy for you to see where you are in the bonus structure. Using this, you can easily see if you’re on track to hit the bonus level that you’re aiming for. One of my favorite things about this bonus offer is that they pay you each tier’s bonus once you hit it. Therefore, you won’t be waiting until the thirty days is up to receive your bonus. If you’d like to learn more about how to earn poker points at Bodog, check out their site.
Bitcoin Welcome Bonus
Bodog also offers a great welcome bonus for players that like to use Bitcoin for their banking. Through this offer, you can earn up to $1,200 of bonus Bitcoin funds on the Bodog site. The best part about this bonus is that you can score both sportsbook and casino bonus funds.
First up, this promotion gives you the chance to score up to $300 of sportsbook bonus. Bodog will match 100% of your sportsbook Bitcoin deposit up to that maximum level. To score the entire $300 maximum, just deposit $300 of Bitcoin or more into the sportsbook. Just use code “BOSBITCOIN100” when making your deposit to claim this offer.
Next, Bodog also allows you to earn up to an additional $900 of bonus Bitcoin in their casino. For this portion of the bonus, they’ll match 150% of your deposit. If you’d like to earn the full $900 of casino bonus, you’ll need to deposit $600 or more into the casino using Bitcoin as your banking method. If you’d like to take advantage of this promotion, just remember to use code “BOCBITCOIN150” when making your deposit.
I like this offer from Bodog as it has some great value built into it. By depositing $900 between the sportsbook and casino, you can pick up $1,200 of bonus Bitcoin. The rollover requirements vary between 5x for the sportsbook and racebook and 30x for the casino. To view the full terms and conditions of this offer, see the Bodog website.
Refer-A Friend Bonus
If you’ve got friends that you think will also enjoy wagering at Bodog, you can earn some bonus cash by referring them to the site. Thanks to their Refer-A-Friend promotion, you can make up to $100 for each one of your friends that you refer. What’s nice about this offer is that Bodog doesn’t limit how many friends that you can refer, which means that you’ve got some serious earning potential if you have lots of friends that enjoy betting online.
Here’s how it works: Bodog will pay you a 200% bonus on your friend’s initial deposit. The bonus max is $100, which means that your friend just needs to deposit $50 or more for you to earn the full $100. It is worth noting that bonus funds from this offer are subject to a 5x rollover requirement in the sportsbook and racebook and a 40x rollover in the online casino.
Referring your friends is super easy thanks to Bodog’s straightforward setup. You’ll just send your friends a referral link. As long your friend clicks on that link and signs up, you’re in business. Be sure to use this program whenever you have a friend that you want to refer to Bodog’s site.
Poker Royal Flush Bonus
I don’t know about you, but I’ve never been lucky enough to get a royal flush while playing poker. Hopefully, it will happen one day. If you are fortunate enough to get a royal flush while playing poker at Bodog, you can score a bonus of up to $200 thanks to their royal flush bonus. If your hand qualifies, you’ll get a bonus equal to fifty times the current big blind at the time of your hand.
It’s worth pointing out some of the rules behind this promotion. For one, you’ll need to be playing in a Texas hold‘em cash game on their site. Also, you’ll need to use both of your hole cards, and the hand must go to a showdown. Finally, you’ll also need three players to be dealt in for the start of the hand.
If you luck into getting a royal flush hand that qualifies, you’ll need to make sure that you report it to Bodog within 48 hours of it happening. To claim your bonus, just send an email to [email protected] and mention your table number and hand number. Their team will then credit your account with the bonus within 48 hours.
Poker Bad Beat Bonus
If you’ve played poker in any casino before, you’re probably used to seeing some form of poker bad beat bonus. Luckily, Bodog also offers their own version of this promotion in their online casino. Thanks to this promotion, you can earn up to $1,000. If your hand qualifies, you’ll gain a bonus equal to one hundred times the big blind at that time up to $1,000.
For your hand to qualify, you’ll need to have a full house of aces full of kings or better beaten by four of a kind or better. At Bodog, only real money Texas hold‘em cash games qualify, so tournaments are unfortunately ineligible. One crucial other criterion is that you must use both of your hole cards as does the winning hand.
There are a few other vital details related to earning this bonus. First, three players must have been dealt into the hand. Secondly, you and the winning hand must go into a showdown. If either of you folds out, you won’t be eligible. Finally, there can’t be any communication about the hand while it is happening. For example, if you chat with the other player and tell them to keep going so that you can earn the bad beat special, you’ll be disqualified from obtaining the bad beat bonus.
You must submit your hand within 48 hours if you’d like to claim this bonus. Be sure to record the hand number and the table number as soon as it happens. You can then email those details to [email protected] for review. If approved, you’ll receive your bonus within 48 hours of reporting it to their team.
As a whole, I’m happy with the bonus promotions that Bodog brings to the table for their clients. What I like is that they have a solid mix of promotions from welcome bonuses to game-specific ones. Based on what I’ve seen, Bodog gives their clients lots of chances to earn bonus cash. Be sure to check out the promotions page on Bodog to see all of their current offers.
Banking
Next up, I took a dive into the banking options that Bodog has for clients to make deposits and withdrawals. Below, I’ll detail what you can expect from the site to help you move your funds onto and off of Bodog. If you’re considering Bodog as your new sportsbook or online casino home, you’ll want to make sure that they offer you options that work for your banking needs.
Deposit Methods
For you to begin placing real money wagers on Bodog, you’ll first need to move some of your money onto the site. Luckily, Bodog provides clients three different banking options to select from when they are ready to get started. I’ve listed out the three deposit banking options below along with associated limits for each one of them.
Bitcoin
- Minimum Deposit Amount: $20
- Maximum Deposit Amount: $5,000
Visa & MasterCard
- Minimum Deposit Amount: $20
- Maximum Deposit Amount: $1,000
Interac e-Transfer
- Minimum Deposit Amount: $20
- Maximum Deposit Amount: $1,000
Withdrawal Methods
At Bodog, they provide their clients with four different banking options to withdraw their funds. Those four options are Bitcoin, bank transfer, Visa Vast Funds, and check by courier. I’ll cover each of these below with essential details such as fees and limits.
Bitcoin
- Minimum Withdrawal Amount: $20
- Maximum Withdrawal Amount: $3,000
- Withdrawal Fees: None
Direct Bank Transfer
- Minimum Withdrawal Amount: $20
- Maximum Withdrawal Amount: $4,000
- Withdrawal Fees: $50 per withdrawal
Visa Vast Funds
- Minimum Withdrawal Amount: $20
- Maximum Withdrawal Amount: $2,500
- Withdrawal Fees: $50 per withdrawal
Check by Courier
- Minimum Withdrawal Amount: $20
- Maximum Withdrawal Amount: $3,000
- Withdrawal Fees: First one is free each month. $50 for each one after that.
Overall, the banking options at Bodog are not bad, but they could be better. While they have a good handful of options, the total number of choices that they offer to clients is much lower than the average that I see from most online casinos and sportsbooks. It would be nice to see them add in some other popular options such as Skrill, Neteller, and PayPal in the future so that their clients have more options to choose from.
Mobile Friendliness
Another aspect of a site that I investigate is the site’s mobile compatibility. In today’s age, more people are using their mobile devices to gamble online than they are using their desktop or laptop computers. Due to this fact, it is imperative that online casinos and sportsbooks offer clients a mobile-friendly site that works well on their smartphones or tablets. Below, I’ll let you know what I found when it came to the mobile-friendliness of several areas of Bodog’s website.
Mobile Sportsbook
My first stop using my smartphone was the sportsbook at Bodog. Luckily, I immediately noticed that the sportsbook was mobile friendly. Using their mobile interface, I was able to quickly move about the sportsbook and locate the wagers that I wanted to place. The mobile sportsbook was very well designed and aesthetically pleasing. I found no issues while using this mobile version of the site from my tablet or smartphone.
Mobile Casino Games
After checking out their online sportsbook, I also checked out the online casino at Bodog. Similar to their sportsbook, Bodog also offers a mobile-friendly version of their online casino. I liked how easy it was to use the mobile version of their site to locate my favorite casino games. When playing actual games, the mobile version of the site did a killer job of adapting the game to the size of the device I was playing on. It’s apparent that Bodog’s mobile site has a top-notch responsive design. Based on my experience, the mobile version of their casino performed well on both of my mobile devices.
Mobile App
At this time, Bodog does not offer any form of a mobile app. I checked both the iTunes and Android stores and didn’t locate anything. Since their mobile version of the site is quality, it is my opinion that there isn’t any need for them to develop a mobile app any time soon. If they do ever decide to develop one, I’ll be sure to update this section to let you know what I think about it.
Overall, Bodog has a quality mobile-friendly website. I’m a huge fan of how well both their sportsbook and their online casino work on my mobile devices. Based on my experience with their mobile site, I’d have no problem placing all of my sportsbook and casino wagers using a mobile device. That’s how good their website is. Try it out for yourself and see just how quality it is.
Customer Service
I always make sure to scan a site’s customer service before wrapping up a review. No matter how good a site might seem, it is pertinent to make sure that their team will be there to help you if and when you need it down the road. With Bodog not being an exception, I set off to dig into their customer service support to see just how good they are.
Upon first look, I noticed that Bodog offers clients three different ways to contact them. Client contact options include live chat, phone, and web form. I was ecstatic to see that Bodog provides three different ways to reach their team. By doing this, Bodog makes it simple for just about anyone to contact them when they need assistance.
First up, I test drove their live chat. I’m a monster fan of live chat support since it allows me to get the help I need right there on the site. Because of this fact, I was thrilled to see that Bodog provides live chat as an option. On each occasion that I reached out to their team via live chat, I received helpful service in a timely fashion. Be sure to try out the live chat support from Bodog if you want quick help while you’re currently on the site.
Another option to contact Bodog is the telephone. It’s great to see that Bodog provides phone support, as many of their online sportsbook and casino competitors do not yet offer this. Since many folks prefer to speak with a person on the phone, it’s essential to provide this option. Similar to live chat, I made sure to test it out for myself. Luckily, I found that their phone support team was just as good as their live chat one.
Your final choice to contact their team is a web contact form on their website. Instead of email, Bodog uses a simple web form to allow you to contact them. Once you fill out the form, it will be forwarded to their team, and someone will then reach back out to you via email. What I liked about this contact option was that they allow you to select a department that the message should be sent to. By doing this, it will enable your message to get in the right department’s hands faster than if you were just using a generic email box. When I used the web form to contact their team, I received fast replies with quality answers.
Besides the three excellent contact options, Bodog also shines in one other significant aspect when it comes to their customer service. At Bodog, their customer service team is available 24/7. Thanks to this amazing round-the-clock service, you can rest easy that someone is there to help you no matter what time it is.
By offering three easy ways for clients to reach their support agents and providing 24/7 access, Bodog has made sure that helping clients is a priority. Based on my experience with their team, I have no reason to doubt that Bodog’s customer service will satisfy you.
Would I Play at Bodog Sportsbook and Casino?
I would definitely play at Bodog! From a sports betting perspective, they have assembled an amazing online sportsbook, with a good selection of sports you can bet on, coupled with a great user interface. When it comes to their online casino, they have an excellent variety of games that use quality software suppliers. Outside of that, the site has lots of good going on, including their customer service. While there are a few areas that could use some improvement, the website is still in a great spot as it stands today. Check out Bodog for yourself and see if it might be a good fit for you!
This review was made by: LegitGamblingSites.com Rating: 4.4 out of 5https://www.legitgamblingsites.com
Bodog has an interesting history. The company was founded as
a software design firm in 1994 by Canadian entrepreneur Calvin
Ayre. Ayre is said to have idolized Richard Branson and his
Virgin brand, so it’s no surprise that he worked hard to build
the Bodog brand. After opening as an online sportsbook and
betting site in the year 2000, Bodog.com soon became one of the
biggest names in the industry. By 2005, Bodog was reporting
revenue in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Overview
Then the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006
forced Bodog out of the US market. A few years later, Ayres was
revealed to be in a bit of trouble with the US government. The
charges against him included “illegal gambling and money
laundering” crimes, all related to things that happened before
the UIGEA was passed. Bodog lost a good chunk of its revenue, no
longer able to work with American customers, and sold its
American holdings to the Morris Mohawk group under the name
Bovada.
These days, Bodog offers a number of gambling options “under
one roof” – sports betting, live betting, race betting, casino
games, and head to head and casino-style poker. American
customers are allowed to sign up for poker accounts – an odd
wrinkle in the rules at Bodog, considering US players aren’t
allowed to play in any other category.
Bodog is an experienced operator, with well over a decade in
a tough industry that’s seen its fair share of controversy. I
love how Bodog altered the standard RTG template for their
casino games, tossing in a few quality Betsoft titles and
creating proprietary titles not found anywhere else. While I’m
not convinced that the promotions program is worth much of your
time, unless you’re a sportsbook customer only, it’s nice that
the site offers such a wide variety of bonuses to all their
various types of customer.
Bonus Details
Kudos to Bodog for having a well-designed Bonuses page. All
the information you need is collected in one list, with terms
and conditions for each bonus in a convenient “Learn More” link
directly underneath the description. Having to dig around
multiple locations on a site for all the different bonus offers
is a drag.
Here’s a brief description of every bonus currently listed on
the site’s promotions page at the time of this review. Check the
page to see what offers are available at the time you’re reading
this, since it looks like their promotions are updated
regularly.
- $200 Sports Sign Up Bonus
- $600 Casino Match Bonus
- $1,000 Poker Sign Up Bonus
- Poker Bad Beat Bonus
- Royal Flush Bonus
- Refer-a-Friend Bonus
- Racebook Rebates
Sports
bettors making their first deposit can earn a 100% deposit
match bonus worth up to $200. The rollover requirement is 5x
the deposit-plus-bonus. All wagers, odds, and markets are
eligible for clearing this bonus.
Casino game
fans can earn up to $600 at a match rate of 100%. The
advertised amount is kind of a misnomer, as the $600
actually comes from two bonuses – a $200 offer for slot play
and a $400 offer for casino games. The rollover requirement
for both is 40x deposit-plus-bonus, which is on the high
side compared to other online casino bonuses. Unlike the
site’s sports betting bonus, bets on certain casino games
are not eligible for bonus-clearing.
First-time
poker playing depositors can earn up to $1,000 at a match
rate of 100%. It’s a more complicated system than either of
the other two bonuses I described above. The amount a player
can earn is based on earning what the site calls
PokerPoints.
Bodog offers a
rebate to poker players who experience one of a specific set
of bad beats. The rebate is worth 100x the big blind or a
maximum of $1,000.
If you hold a Royal
Flush, the site will pay you an instant bonus of 50x the big
blind, maxed out at $200.
Bodog customers
who refer a friend are eligible to earn a bonus worth 200%
of their first deposit of $20 or more, maxed out at $100.
The rollover for this bonus depends on the game you play –
sportsbook and poker customers have a 3x rollover, while
casino customers have a 20x rollover.
Racebook customers
can earn a 5% rebate on eligible race wagers on Tuesday
afternoons. The actual amount of the rebate depends on the
type of wager bettors place.
Banking Options
Before I describe the four banking options available at
Bodog, I want to point out that the variety of methods is
painfully small, and that at the time of my visit, part of their
site was either down or just overlooked. I was trying to find
out details on fees and other requirements for the various
banking methods, but the page it took me to was completely blank. I understand, accidents happen, but this seems like
pretty crucial information for potential customers, so it’s a
shame it wasn’t available.
- Credit Card – VISA/MasterCard only. May
require 7 business days. - Direct Bank Transfer – Fees and other details not
available. - E-transfer – Fees and other details not available.
- Check by Courier – Maximum withdrawal size is $3,000. May
require 10 business days.
Sportsbook
Bodog’s sportsbook was not just one of the first
international online sportsbook services – it was a pioneer in
deposits and withdrawals. One of the first instant payment
methods, eCheck, premiered on the old Bodog.com domain.
What did Bodog’s sportsbook service do that made it such a
success? Some reviewers attribute the site’s explosive growth
and global branding to good marketing. Of course, signing up all
the customers in the world won’t help if those customers aren’t
spending (and losing) money. In the early days of the sportsbook
industry, other books were charging fees for payouts and “nickel
and diming” customers in other ways. Bodog offered bonuses in
plain English and a wide range of free (and fast) payout
options.
Times have changed – so has Bodog’s URL. But bodog.eu is
still a respected name in sports betting. The site has
maintained some of its initial sleek simplicity over the past
couple of decades. I found the user interface pretty intuitive,
and I got used to navigating the markets and wagers without a
struggle.
Markets Covered
I just checked the available betting markets, and here’s what
I found – Bodog has two lists of markets for sports bettors. One
is a standard list of betting lines available all the time, the
other is a special list of “Featured Betting Lines.”
Bodog.eu
Here is the List of Standard Betting Lines at Bodog:
- Hockey
- Basketball
- Baseball
- Football
- Soccer
- UFC/MMA
- Tennis
- Golf
- Boxing
- Motor Sports
- E-Sports
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Cricket
- Darts
- Snooker
- Other Sports
- Horse Racing
- Entertainment
Featured Betting Lines are lines available on special
contests taking place on or near the day you visit. In the
months leading up to the Super Bowl, you’ll find props and lines
for the NFL’s big game. Currently, in the middle of the US
Women’s World Cup, you can find a number of wagers on that
otherwise-ignored market.
Here’s the List of Featured Betting Lines at the Time of This
Review:
- Live In-Play MLB Baseball
- The Greenbrier Classic
- Odds to Win the Tournament
- Wimbledon
- Live In-Play ATP/WTA Tennis
- Women’s World Cup
Customer Service
Customer service is often easy to reach and they speak
clearly, in perfect English, and are knowledgeable about the
sports betting industry.
You can reach the banking department between the hours of 9AM
and 5PM, though bets-by-phone and online are available around
the clock. To contact the sportsbook directly, call +
506-296-6338.
Casino
Bodog’s blend of software platforms is a nice feature. The
site uses BetSoft, Realtime Gaming, and proprietary games to
make up its casino library. The benefit of a blended platform is
increased variety. No matter how good a casino designer’s suite
of titles is, players are going to get bored of the same style
of games over and over. That’s why I’m always excited to read
that a site is using a blended platform.
One of the ways Bodog’s software is unique is that many of
the casino games were built on the skeleton of RTG’s popular
casino game library. Bodog pulled this off by literally buying
the source code for RTG’s games and having their designers
customize and improve on them. The result is a rarity in the
online casino business – the possibility of a unique lineup of
games.
Unfortunately, that’s not what happened. Most of the site’s
casino titles end up looking and behaving an awful lot like RTG
titles, down to the names and selection of game variants.
I cover the Site’s Casino Library in More Detail Below:
Blackjack Games
This is where Bodog has collected its ten versions of the casino classic blackjack. Having
reviewed a number of RTG-powered sites over the years I’m
confident in saying that this list of games is similar enough to
the standard RTG package to be almost comical.
- Blackjack –
The standard casino card game, available in multiple deck
formats. - Double Deck
Blackjack – A two-deck game that follows standard rules. - European
Blackjack – A six-deck game in which the dealer makes decisions
differently. - Face Up 21
– An eight-deck game in which the dealer’s cards are dealt
face-up. - Match Play
21 – An eight-deck game, Match Play 21 is Bodog’s version of
Spanish 21. - Perfect
Pairs – A standard blackjack game with additional bonus payouts
for certain hands. - Pontoon – A
two-deck game with rules based on a classic British blackjack
variant. - Single Deck
Blackjack – A single-deck version of Bodog’s standard blackjack
game. - Super 21 –
Another blackjack variant with bonus payouts for different hand
combos. - Zappit
Blackjack – A blackjack variant that allows players to exchange
cards of a certain value.
Slots
This is home to all of Bodog’s slot games that weren’t produced by Betsoft or aren’t proprietary 3D slots.
That’s a bit confusing, but basically if you’re looking for
Realtime Gaming titles, you should look in the Slots category.
Here’s a partial list of popular RTG and proprietary slot games
hosted at Bodog at the time of my last visit:
- Bank On It
- Cleopatra’s Gold
- I.R.I.S. 3000
- It’s Good to Be Bad
- Mid-Life Crisis
- Zombies vs. Cheerleaders
3D Slots
This is where Bodog hosts their higher-quality games, the vast majority of them produced by
industry giant Betsoft. “3D Slots” is kind of a misnomer – it’s
a vague category of slot titles that the industry uses to
differentiate between games with high-quality “3D” effects, and
it’s useful as an identifier for slot fans interested in a
certain type of game.
Here’s a partial list of some of the most popular Betsoft 3D
slots hosted at Bodog at the time of my review:
- 2 Million BC
- At the Movies
- Good Girl Bad Girl
- Heist
- Sushi Bar
- The Slotfather
Specialty Games
This is where Bodog collects titles that don’t really belong anywhere else. At the time of my
review, the three games hosted here were Sic Bo, Keno, and Bonus
Bingo. All three of these games remind me of RTG’s versions,
which weren’t anything special to begin with.
If you’re not familiar with Bonus Bingo, Bodog describes it
as bingo that’s been “… designed to include a little more
pizzazz and a whole lot more features.” That’s a really vague
description; as far as I can tell, Bonus Bingo is multi-card
bingo with a bonus round and a multiplier prize.
Table Games
This is the section of Bodog’s library dedicated to table games that aren’t blackjack. If the
following list of titles is familiar, it’s because you can find
almost the same games at any RTG casino:
- American
Roulette – The classic game played on a wheel with two green
“zero spaces.” - Baccarat –
A traditional game of baccarat with an average-looking display. - Caribbean
Draw – A five-card draw poker game with a progressive jackpot.
Players may draw up to two new cards after they raise. - Caribbean
Hold’em – A five-card community poker game with a progressive
jackpot. - Caribbean Stud – A five-card stud game with a progressive jackpot. The
dealer shows just one up-card. - Craps – A
traditional game of craps played with European-style rules. - European
Roulette – The classic game played on a wheel with just one
green “zero space.” - Let ‘Em
Ride – A popular casino-style community poker game. - Pai Gow
Poker – A poker game based on the rules of an ancient Chinese
domino game. - Red Dog – A
poker-like card game involving antes and card value hierarchy. - Tri-Card
Poker – A three-card poker game with a single raise/fold round. - Vegas Three
Card Rummy – A player-versus dealer game where the lowest hand
wins. - War – The
casino version of the kid’s classic card game.
Video Poker
This is the most plainly-labeled category of Bodog’s casino library. Collected here are seventeen
variations of video poker. Each game is a little different in
terms of its rules, payouts, available bonuses, and design.
Here’s the full list of RTG-style video poker games available at
Bodog at the time of my review:
- Aces and Eights
- 7-Stud Poker
- All American Poker
- Bonus Deuces Wild
- Bonus Poker
- Bonus Poker Deluxe
- Deuces Wild
- Double Bonus Poker
- Double Double Bonus Poker
- Double Double Jackpot Poker
- Double Jackpot Poker
- Jacks or Better
- Joker Poker
- Loose Deuces
- Mystery Bonus Poker
- Pick’Em Poker
- Sevens Wild
Poker
Bodog Poker is my favorite section of the site because I’m an
American, and most US players can sign up for a Bodog poker
account. The reason this loophole exists is complicated, and has
to do with licensing. The gaming license for Bodog’s proprietary
poker software is Kahnawake, which gladly licenses gaming
operations with US-based customers.
But once upon a time, Bodog was a huge player in the US poker
market. Before the UIGEA forced most of the major poker sites
out of the US entirely, Bodog had a couple of years of booming
growth in its young poker room, which opened for business in
2004. By that time, Bodog was a household name for its
sportsbook and casino properties. By 2006, Bodog boasted a World
Series of Poker champion in Jamie Gold.
Don’t think that Bodog is full of American players – sure,
you’ll see lots of North American-based opponents, but Bodog has
done an excellent job expanding its base in to Europe and Asia.
In my experience, Bodog is still one of the most diverse player
bases in the online world, if only because it includes a few
American players.
Bodog hovers between fourth and second place in terms of
poker traffic.
In a way, Bodog has retained
its household name status in the world of online poker, even
though the US poker market is nothing compared to ten or twelve
years ago. According to PokerScout.com, Bodog has peaked at
around 3,800 cash players in the last seven days, with an
average number of around 1,700.
The line on player quality at Bodog and other sites with
attached sportsbooks is that the competition plays looser than
average because of wandering sportsbook customers with no poker
experience. Even if that’s true, which I don’t think it is, this
type of player can still be dangerous to veterans. They’re
unpredictable, frustrating, and annoying.
In my opinion, the fact that Bodog has the third-most traffic
of any online poker site (as I write this) means that the
quality of players is varied, including a smattering of players
of all skill levels.
Bodog Poker hosts games of Texas hold’em, Omaha, Omaha hi-lo,
seven card stud, and seven card hi-lo, all in both Limit and No
Limit ring games. I’ll admit that I saw only a single high
stakes game going on at my last visit, and it seems like other
reviewers agree – Bodog is not a great spot for high stakes
games.
Bodog Eu
If you’re into tournaments, though, Bodog would make a nice
home.
The
site’s own Bodog Poker Open tends to make some noise in the
industry as well. Compared to PokerStars and 888, the tournament
pool are noticeably smaller, in the low hundreds rather than
pushing 1,000. Some players love that, others hate it.
Customer Support
Bodog’s general support line is 1-877-263-6422. The site’s
fax number is +1 866-737-8458.
Bodog Ufc Odds
The site says
that Bodog attempts to answer all emails “… within four hours.”
Live chat is available at this site. It isn’t available 24
hours a day, like at other sites, but I can’t tell you what
hours it is open, as that information isn’t publicly available.
Summary
Bodog Sportsbook Online
Bodog has changed a lot since it was founded in the mid-90s.
Some of those changes are still occurring – since the 2006
UIGEA, Bodog has struggled to maintain its place as one of the
top names in the industry, especially after getting rid of their
US-facing operations. In the wake of founder Calvin Ayres legal
troubles in the US, it seems unlikely the site will ever retain
its old glory, even if regulations in America loosen over the
next decade, as is expected.
Bodog’s user-interface is good-looking and easy to use. I
can’t say the same about their mobile sites, which seem
ill-suited to display on my iPhone 6+. Though the casino and
poker software is a blend of existing and proprietary games and
designs, it doesn’t seem varied enough to compete with some of
the bigger names in the business.
Bodog Europe
If you live outside the US and you are primarily interested in betting on sports or playing poker, Bodog is a good option to consider. Outside of those circumstances, I’d suggest a site with a more robust promotions program and a higher-quality casino game library. I’m pretty neutral on Bodog overall.
